Leviton Optical Cables - Universal Unitube Fire Survival Cable
In today’s business environment the secure backup of business critical systems in the event of an emergency is a prerequisite.
The Fire Survival cable is used in areas where critical data transmission must continue when the building or structure in which it is installed is on fire. For this reason, its use in large public buildings such as data centers, airports, railway stations, stadia and onshore/offshore industrial structures is becoming increasingly common. The use of the cable in building management, fire and security systems means that these vital systems will remain functional in the event of a real life incident which requires an emergency evacuation.
There are two areas of fire safety included in the Constructions Product Regulations. Reaction to Fire and Resistance to Fire. At present, only the Reaction to Fire standard (EN 50575) has been published.
The latest guidelines issued by Europacable state that it is currently “forbidden to CE mark and issue a DoP for fire resistant cables”. Although Fire Resistant cables will fall under the scope of CPR in the near future, they cannot currently be certified until the dedicated harmonized standard is issued and published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
